If you are a true Jazz/Bluegrass fan, then that would lead me to believe that you know what Jazz instruments really sound like in real life. The range of sax (alto/tenor/soprano/bari- just the common 4 of 14 varities) and the realistic raw edge of the trumpet and clarinet, the low piano notes and the body of the organ...not even putting a dent into it.. I feel Morel, Dynaudio, and DLS 2way offerings will come up short in the percussion realism aspect. Their midrange sounds like theres a wet towel over the speaker and the poly cone sound is uninviting and its plasticky sounding in reproducing the kick of the drums. This is not taking into account the amount of juice you need to push through these to get good sound. I feel they sound nice, enjoyable listen but I want to listen to the emotion and dynamic unbalance in the music, not just some elevetor music type reproduction that will put me to sleep because it hinders the sense of realism enbedded in these very colorful sounding instruments. The 3ways are a vast improvement simply by the addition of the dome midranges, allowing more volume and greater separation/detail in each dedicated range. I'd recommend looking into the Rainbow Profi Phase plugs and Seas Lotus Reference....excellent 2way sets that will deliver SQ wise from the 80hz up range with lil' equal in their price range. Superb midrange and effortless high freq extension with as natural a midbass sound you can find. My .02 cents
