A measurement of "noise reduction" combines the effect of the sound transmission loss performance of structures separating the two areas or rooms, plus the effect of acoustic absorption present in the receiving room.</p><p></p><p>THRESHOLD SHIFT. A change in the threshold of audibility at a specified frequency from a threshold previously established. The amount of threshold shift is customarily expressed in decibels.</p><p></p><p>TIMBRE.
