I'm going to have to disagree here. If people have a legit question, fine. I've been a "newbie" at plenty of things. That does NOT give me the right to make > 5 threads to get a few FAQ's answered. That DOES NOT give me the right to act like a complete moron, and refuse to learn at all for myself. I'll use your example of hardrockfan. His "newbieness" is not the problem. It's that he violated the etiqutte (sp) of the forum. He posted quite a few threads, and posed quite a few moronic questions. It's fine to be new, it's fine to not know much. But it's not okay to spam, and it's not okay to ask questions without first looking for answers yourself. That is the reason for the gangbanging of hardrockfan, and many others. I've had plenty of newbie questions. Most were answered with a few quick google/forum searches. If I had a very specific question I couldn't find the answer to, I'd make a thread. Only AFTER I looked into it myself. Also, I didn't make stupid threads like "oMG I WANT LOUD BASS SO PPL SEE MEEEE" and "OMG I HATE LOUD CARS WTF!!!111oneoneone". The person posting that may be new, but that doesn't mean that they are unaware of the stupidity of their questions. Bashing newbies, I agree, is bad. Bashing idiots who have no "online manners", if you will, is fine. Two seperate ideas that seem to be getting mixed up here.
