George Washington owned slaves, yet we still love him. It's a sign of the times- you can't compare Ted Williams or Ty Cobb to Barry Bonds- it's a completely different era. You're right though- a lot of the blame falls on the MLB for turning the other way while this was all going on- but look what it did for the game at the time. They had just come out of the strike and needed something to boost them- along came McGwire and Sosa. But that doesn't excuse Barroid for his actions. He is the most talented player to be surrounded with these allegations, and because of who he is, he gets more heat then others- but he doesn't do much to avert that heat- he's a known ******* in the clubhouse, he treats the media like garbage, he danced around admitting to steroids, just like McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, and others. On the home run thing- it did take him a couple years to develop into a more prevalent power hitter- but the numbers are still alerting- he had only broken 45+ hr's once up until 2000, and did it each of the next 5 years, at the age of 36. Even if you make the argument that he would have broken 45 hr's in both 94 and 99, no one knows. And you can't say no one does anything the first 2-3 seasons...that's nonsense. Sure, a ton of MLB players take some time to develop- look at David Ortiz, he struggled for years in Minnesota before getting his game together in Boston- but look at A-Rod- his first full season he hit 36 HR's. Vlad's first season, he hit 38. Pujols hit 37.
