Howdy I am hunter, I am finally getting back in gear with my car audio after a small setback (buyers remorse) I am going somewhere for help. I run sound for a southern rock band and want that same sound I get from the mains at the shows. I also installed home audio for four years at sound advice and installed car audio for five years. That was back in the day and really have not kept up with the trends. On the advice of one of my old installers, I leaped in full on and bought an audison vrx 400 and two focal k2p 165 component sets, two rolls of dinomat, and an eclipse 7200 head unit. So off I went took out my alpine deck through in my eclipse and wow, helped allot the 8 volt preout was awesome. Next to go my jl 300/4, put in my audison and bam night and day. The audson hands down blew my jl out of the water. At the time I was running old Boston acoustic components. So I figured time to upgrade armed with two rolls of dinomat and two new focal component sets, I venture out to reach my goals of better sound. That’s where my story turns. Man what a bad day for me! I’ve heard these same focal in other rides and that’s why I bought em. Their great speakers but I am finding out that you can buy good stuff but sometimes that stuff just doesn’t get along together. The focal are way too bright and the mids are too much, the power handling is not up to par with what i am wanting. So one step forward two steps back, I am shopping for speakers again. Don’t get me wrong the focal are great if the amp you use isn’t so hot at its ability to reproduce mids. would probably sound great on my old jl but my audison already flattens the levels enough without having the focals to help. They have their place in the industry just not what i is looking for. Great for classical and most other music at low levels, but just aren’t keeping up with the hard southern rock i am pushing through them, so their going to find a better home for someone who will use them the way they should be used. Meantime I am looking for something with some balls. The lower end and power handling i am looking for. I like the Boston pro and z components. They got balls, but i am not jumping into things to fast again. Anybody got any ideas? Keep in mind i still want some good mids and highs. So i am not buying autobaun crap or cheap *** Rockford fosgate. I shouldn’t say that I’ve heard some Rockford that sounded pretty good. I am also saying that i am not satisfied with focals, so price doesn’t always determine what sounds good. I live in a small town the only time i get to check out anything is when the bands are at a show, and it’s hard to get away from them to shop around. I am sure there are some guys on here that can make recommendations I.e., rock, country, blues, jazz and some rap. Anyways i need help. Either a new doctor or new speakers. Lol
