The two most likely things. The subwoofer's voice coil is damaged and is causing the amp to shut down. The amplifier is damaged and needs repaired/replaced. Start by checking the sub to see if its ok, then move on to the amp. A subwoofer with a damaged voice coil will- Make a grinding noise or not move at all (seized) when you gently push on the cone (push dead center). The subs magnet vent stinks like burnt furniture. Will give ohm readings way off manufactureres spec when checked with a DMM. The speaker suspention is torn all to hell. A wire could have come loose as well and simply need reconnected. For checking the amp- Make sure the power wires dont have any stray bits of wire shorting out on anything. Make sure the amps ground spot hasn't corroded causing a poor ground. Make sure the remote on lead from the HU is sending a 12volt signal. Make sure the amps input voltage from the battery is at least 11 volts. If every thing checks out at this point the amp is most likely broken.
