I had the old version of the type-r's and the cdts were a great upgrade, like night and day. They can take more power like nothing and sound better imo at higher volumes. Very clear and smooth as well as well balanced set of comps. I went through 3 sets of r's in one year and they shrilled and distorted while the cdts take any thing i dish at them and I am now hearing things in my music that was not audiable with the type'r due to distortion.
