I'm going to wait for SP1 and then check it out again on my test rig. I've also read that there is a program that leans out the OS as well which may help to speed it up. I also do not like UAC. I think it needs more logic built into it.
ME originally was slated to be a long living OS as well. The Windows design team was put into overdrive and other divisions were brought in to aid to quickly get XP up to speed. I believe they saw it for what it was, a flop. I am in NO ay saying Vista is a flop. I believe many of the points you mentioned above (other post, not this one) are in agreement with I said. DX10, better multi-core support etc. I think vista is a good OS, just was put out WAY too early. I personally had no luck with the OS. I'm going to wait for SP1 and then check it out again on my test rig. I've also read that there is a program that leans out the OS as well which may help to speed it up. I also do not like UAC. I think it needs more logic built into it. I understand why it is in place and it really helps people like my mother, but for someone with better than average computer security knowledge, it really just gets annoying.
