[i'm an ******* because I made a comment about how you are advertising the fact that you have very little experience building computers yet telling him to PM you as if you're an expert ? Gotcha ... Vista improves in tons of ways over XP. The pre-loaded apps are way better, they added some much needed utilities (the ability to adjust partitions is extremely handy), security is substantially better in Vista than XP, a search feature that is not only quick but useful, etc. I have XP and Vista on my gaming machine and the difference is negligible. XP is slightly faster in benchmarks, but I could really give a fvck less about 150 points (oh noes, not 1%) in 3DMark06 or a few seconds on startup/shutdown, personally. IMO, putting XP on a new computer is retarded unless you absolutely, positively NEED XP in order to run something you absolutely need that won't work w/ Vista ... especially XP x64. If you're going to skimp in one place, do it on the hard drive or graphics card as those items are easily upgradable and advance very quickly in terms of power (GPUs) or capacity (HDDs). Skimping on the power supply will get you an unstable piece of shit computer that crashes all the time and with an increased failure rate on components. Under no circumstances should you ever compromise on the quality of the power supply (i.e. getting a Raidmax piece of shit). The OCZ PSU is okay, but I wouldn't buy it personally. I would probably pick up the Corsair CMPSU-620HX, which is a fvcking awesome power supply, very quiet, and modular. Before you buy anything, consider waiting for the 45 nm Intel Quads to come out (they're due out very shortly). Not only will they be faster, but you'll also have more selection in your price range. Plus, considering you're playing mostly RTS games, the CPU is going to be the most important part, alongside the RAM. Spending $200+ on a graphics card to play RTS games when you're on a $1000 budget isn't a good decision, IMO, unless you're playing at substantial resolutions (i.e. 1680x1050 or higher) ...
