Hey everyone, I've got a '92 vette & about $500 to spend on a full system. I already have a pair of MB Quart DKE-116 (6") to go in the back and am choosing/buying a HU, front speakers (5 1/4") & an amp to drive the speakers. Here is what I've selected & why. Please give me some feedback about what you think might be a better choice for each component but keep in mind that I cannot go over $600 after shipping & am trying to stay closer to $500. HU: Sony CDX-F7700 CD Receiver ($190ish). - I chose this because it has 3 4v pre-amps & I may eventually want to add a sub amp & sub. I think it has an AUX on the back as well... I was also considering a Kenwood HU (KDC-4028). Alpine & Clarion were too high (from what I found) for the features offered. Front Speakers: MB Quart DKE-113 (5 1/4"). ($90ish) - I love the sound of the DKE-116 so I figure that I'll like these too. Amp: Kenwood KAC 8401 - 4 x 60rms ($180ish) - I've had Sony amps & they tend to over-heat here in hot Austin. This amp has a built in fan so I'm hoping I could avoid the ever-annoying over-heating issues... I've read some posts talking about the poor power supplies in Kenwood amps of the past. Not sure if that is still an issue. I looked at a Phoenix Gold amp but can't remember the model. The problem was that it was over 17" long & won't fit where I plan to put the amp... Thanks for your advice... $500 is nothing compared to most great stereos (like the one in my boat) but that's all the wifey will let me spend for this project and I want to get as high quality as I can. Gracias! Mark
