I have been out of the audio scene for some time now (10 + years). Back in the late 80’s the amps to have were: Rockford, PPI, Sound Stream to name a few. I have done some research and now hear that these amps are not what they use to be. I just bought a 2008 Toyota Tacoma double cab. I have already purchased the front and rear speakers (Hertz HSK 165 components for the front and Hertz HCX 165 coaxial for the rear). I have not decided on a sub but I am considering the JL Audio stealth box (two 10” subwoofers) that fit behind the rear passenger seat I am thinking of going with one amp (5 channel). I will not be going active with this set up. I like the size of the Alpine PDX-5. Another amp that has caught my attention is the Polk Audio PA1100.5. I am afraid that the Polk will be too big. I want to place the amp underneath the front seats. If money was no object I would go with the Audison LRX5.1K but I do not want to spend $1,500.00. I am looking for a good compromise between clean power and not breaking the bank on the price. I am looking to spend $500.00. I have to say that the Alpine PDX is on the short list. Any and all recommendations are appreciated.
