I started out owning pioneer and when I started to REALLY get into stereos I bought a P860MP and a 9855 for myself and my friend who was doing his first build. They sounded much warmer than the pioneer for sure. Pioneer should have been a better deck than the 9855 as far as specs went, but it didnt have that feeeeel. Never did run active with them though. (Actually I used the 860 while I was getting the run around on a deck). Scored both 9855s for like 115 bucks though. Wish I still had um. I have had: X200 X100 9855 9855 9853 117 Some older lower end model MP3 CD changer 9886 9887 I have always wanted another 9855 honestly, just been afraid after I bought the 9853 and it would grind when you put a CD in it -___- I will say that coming to the 9887 it is nice to be active with alpine again, but I can hear mech noises when playing at high volume, esp with the iPod. That really bothers me and may facilitate more hunting. Also for the cost of the 9887 or 9855 I would expect some updates in the software after 4 years. More than 7 bands would be nice too. Really tempting to not go to the 80PRS, though I am concerned for mech noise and poor quality in the quality for that price if you nawwmeen
