BBE really, really helped the stock speakers sound better. No matter how much I play with the EQ, I simply can't get the booming sound I could out of the 9300.
Well, I have been staring at this pile of car audio equipment waiting to be installed in my car for almost 2 months now, and couldn't do it anymore (I'm waiting on funds to purchase about 300sqft of RAAMmat before I do the install). I pulled out my trusty Pioneer 9300, and in went the 9855. When I was playing with the glide touch on the work bench, it was kind of clumsy to use. However, once I installed it in the car, I think I have it down to a T after only an hour or so of use. I still miss knob/button on each side of the faceplate, though. That alone might make me sell this to pick up the 880. The menu systems are very simple. Only took about 5 minutes of playing time to figure out where everythign was located and how to change it. The screen is awesome! I love the Biolite display. I think it may be better than the organic EL in the 9300. Granted, the Organic EL's do look better now than they did back when the 9300 was around, but man, this is one sexy display. As for sound, it is kind of hard to tell ATM. I'm running stock speakers off the H/U until the new equip goes in. I'd have to say that the 9300 made the music sound better, though. I think this is mostly due to BBE. BBE really, really helped the stock speakers sound better. No matter how much I play with the EQ, I simply can't get the booming sound I could out of the 9300. I'm sure once I put the Kicker SS's in with a couple hundred watts, I won't even remember what BBE stands for This thing looks sharp in my dash. The customizable colors for teh buttons really helps out. I have amber lights on my whole dash with some red, so was able to make the buttons/lights red and orange on the unit! Anyway, this is my first experience with an Alpine unit for more than 20 minutes, and I am pleased so far. Thumbs up to Alpine for a good product. Hopefully, enough people have complained in the past year, and when the 07 lien rolls out in a month, they will make some good head units and not no piece of **** "FULL SPEED IPOD" crap.
