I had a terribly frustrating experience today at a local Future Shop where I had to exchange my subwoofers that I blew. The salesperson was determined to convince me that I blew my subs either due to a faulty amplifier, or too little power. I laughed at him and explained why this was impossible, including in my arguement clipped sine waves causing excess heat build up etc. He then told me, matter of factly, that at his store they hooked up 5000WRMS to a Kenwood 10" Tornado sub, and it took 5 minutes for it to blow! LoL. He then told me they did this by hooking it up straight to the socket from the store! Instead of countering with the obvious (hooking a sub straight up to a nice 110V AC outlet? - no mention of an amplifier on his part) I retorted with "do you know how a subwoofer functions? (albeit I learned this not too long ago) and he ignored my question and insisted I was incorrect. What a display of cognitave dissonance! From now on when I enter a store, I'll enter without talking to their "tech" help, it will save my heart grief I'm sure. I just thought it was an interesting occurance, as I'm sure quite a few of you have had to put up with before.
