Anyone who says Torque wins races shows their complete ignorance and lack of knowledge. Physics teaches us we can have all the torque in the world and be rotating at exactly 0 RPM. You wont get very far rotating at 0 RPM. Physics also teaches us that Power is a unit of measure of F*D / time. Think of the power of an engine as Torque over rotational time. Time is what wins races, not ability to pull a 35' boat up a wet ramp. Torque can be multiplied through gearing, horsepower can not. If you want to talk about WHY torque wins races, a flat torque curve makes for a linear power curve which means linear acceleration, you can pull longer with out shifting gears with out loosing acceleration. Time shifting is what can make or break races, espesiall stomp and go races (like drag racing). 300hp 5.0 vs 300hp 13bTT, weight and traction being the same, the 5.0 will likely win by a bit because it has a flatter torque curve so it has a mroe linear power curve. Basically, a 5.0 moves a lot in a period of time, the 13bTT moves less in a much shorter period of time. ie, the 13b makes its power at extremely high RPMs.
