Chandlerr what about buying one from the US and having it shipped there? Quite a few places on ebay sell them new in box for $250 US and ship all over the world. Or do you have any friends here that would be willing to buy it and ship it to you, I know there is import fees and what not but it can't be as bad as what you are describing to buy it there. Also I just bought a refurbished one for 199.99 recently and it was a major upgrade over my Kenwood KDC-X998 Excelon and worth every single penny. I just got it in on Weds night and had surgery Thurs morning but just the 20 mins or so I was playing around with settings was a big improvement over what I was using. They really are worth the money and if you look around at peoples sig's where they have want they have installed you will see a lot of those head units being used here.
