Some times a lot, some times none. Read the Speakers FAQ sticky to learn more about the advantages/disadvantages of 2-way vs 3-way. But there is no definitive answer as to which is better or worse.....it's all about the specific performance of the speakers (and crossover) in question, the abilities of the installer/tuning and which set of trade-offs work best for the particular end user. Are you limiting your search to those speakers you can personally audition prior to purchase? What are you goals for the system, both in terms of quality of sound and ease of installation/tuning? And what price range are you looking at? What does the rest of the system consist of? And sound boards are both good and bad.....good in that they allow you to listen to a speaker before you buy it, but bad in that there's no guarantee the setup actually allows you hear the speakers at the peak of their performance. Most sound boards are horrible for accurate sound reproduction, and where the speakers are located on the board (and how their setup on the board...sealed, IB, etc) and what settings are used throughout the rest of the setup on the sound board are going to greatly affect how they "sound". So what sounds best on the sound board might not sound best in your car......and what sounds less than spectacular on the sound board might sound great in your car.
