You definitely won't hurt the sub with lower power and your amplifier will push closer to 800-850wrms @ 2ohms. It is not one that doubles in power from 2 to 1ohms despite the ratings. The ratings are for USACi style competitions where they go by the manufacturers 4ohm output rating. That amp will put out about 425ish into 4ohms. There are tons of myths floating around out there about low power killing subwoofers as well as 50k other myths on different subjects. It's common, but it's not true. With the same alternator, and the same amplifier, at lower impedances there is MORE distortion, so going UP in impedance from 1 to 2ohms, you will basically cut the distortion by 1/3rd in this instance. For extra information, to give you "ammunition" or knowledge for future dealings with local shops and the many myths and possible sales traps...... The gain is not a volume knob, it is only there to match the input signal strength to the amplifier input section. The amplifier has a given exponential value in amplification...like 20:1. Feed it 1 and it'll give you 20....if the gain is set correctly. If the gain is set too high, you can clip a 1ohm stable amp at 4ohms and burn a 1200wrms subwoofer to death with what you thought was 300wrms coming out of the amp. Just some extra info for future use.
