ugh. thats a lot of unorganized crap you posted. firs let me start out with a few of my own questions. why do you need more volume than stock if you listen to mostly AM talk radio? the stock system in my 03 Gti was loud enough for that. do you have the monsoon one? i would always upgrade the headunit to something before i even attempt to install an aftermarket stereo because of complications (espically in VW's) that will arise. as far as what to buy? go look. there are tons of headunits that will give you fine AM reception (that technology is what... 101 years old? they should do it well) and you may want to look into something like XM or Sirius satalite radio that is integrated into the headunit. you get better signal and lots more to choose from. onto the system itself. ppi art amps are great quiality last a life time. and likewise with JL audio. if you wanted, you could install that and bridge it on your boston components (i think they are components?) and then get a sealed 10" subwoofer and hook that to your JL amp. with a headunit and those pieces of equipment installed, you would have a relativly cheap and effective stereo that looks like it can accomplish all the goals you have put forward to us.
