Well, I ended up purchasing a SWR-12D4, I'm running 2ohms resistance to get 500 watts to it. instead of the 4ohm, 300 watts with the JL. Seems to have a little bit better punch than the JL did. I sold the JL to a friend who wanted it, he is happy with it.

I don't plan on changing my components any time soon. My box was made from CustomBoxMan (or something like that) on eBay.. paid around $120 for it. It's a good box.

reporting back on this, the conclusion I came up with was the rux-knob was causing the grinding noise. Replacing the wire didn't help, but replacing the knob itself did. The sub no longer makes a grinding noise with the new knob.

The problem was the head unit. I think the positive wire touched the RCA wires and jacked up the terminals. Replaced the HU and all is well again.

Just wanted to give a final report. Everything is in good working order again after getting a new HU.

There is already a dash kit in my truck for a single DIN unit I was hoping to reuse it. As far as the harness, there is already one present from the existing HU harness to the OEM plug, so do I just splice the connector wires that come with the HU to the adapter harness? Or are there specific...

Thanks. It hasn't come in yet, so I haven't had the chance to see if the wiring process will be straightforward. Do I just remove the existing spliced wires and splice in the new harness to the existing wires?

I currently have a DEH-P600UB.. old school Premier HU I've had since high school. Ordered a new DEH-X9500BHS and I'm pretty sure the connector on the back is not the same as my old HU. I was wondering where I could get a wiring kit for the new HU.. or how to do it. This is my first time...

Yes, but not for a subwoofer. Only for speakers. Tried plugging them into other spots but it didn't work either.

Okay so after testing my amp and sub via headphone jack to RCA, seems to work fine. Replaced RCA cables with no success. I think the power wire touching said cable may have fried my HU subwoofer output terminals. So I guess I'll be getting a new HU. Live and learn! I will try to report back so...
