Trunk rattle + dB meter suggestions

Thanks all for your responses! In regards to the dB meter suggestions, I ended up using my Blue Yeti microphone which supposedly can handle up to 120dB and I'll use REW on my laptop to record a sine sweep and then move my sub around to see which position gets the best results. I'll of course...

Trunk rattle + dB meter suggestions

After upgrading from 750w to 2kW in my hatchback, trunk rattles have become a lot more excessive, but before I go investing hundreds into Dynamat, I was wondering if there's some cheap/temporary solution I can use that will allow me to figure out how much of the sound I can deaden. I saw...

Yes that is a split, the port was the first join I made and I didn't make the pilot large enough, but I actually filled the split with some glue and it doesn't seem to have affected the sound at least. Just one of many minor mistakes I made with this box 🤓

Thanks for your suggestions, but the box is already complete (see my last post). I chose to put the baffle on the outside to avoid losing internal volume. I don't have a router unfortunately, nor would I have the experience to use one. Although I sanded down the corners and edges of the box and...

    A newbie's first design

Here's an update a month later: Got a sheet of MDF locally, put the cut list into CutList Optimizer and the shop was more than happy to cut it. I had almost no confidence I could do this, but despite installing the port slightly incorrectly (above the other port instead of to the side of it)...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

Just thought I'd quickly update this thread as it's been a long while since I promised an update, I finally checked the AC output of the speaker terminals, I get 42VAC before clipping, and around 55VAC when turning the volume up just one notch to where it clips. So now that I know the amp is...

    A newbie's first design

So just to confirm, no one has any criticisms with the design? @Buck Should I consider adding wood to the corners like you did with my design? I'll also consider sanding down both ends of the port into a flare. Of course if anyone else has any other tips or suggestions for what I can add to...

It's a 2010 Renault Clio - nothing special 😄 Just incase, here are photos of the trunk and its dimensions (ignoring the amp as that's now gone and I plan to mount the new amp onto the box instead).

No worries man I just really hope you get better soon as it's never nice to have to deal with pain in general, let alone health-related pain. The design shows a 'Net Internal Volume' of 3.51 cubic feet so I'd assume that is fine. I would go for an aero port but I think all the builders I know...

    A newbie's first design

As mentioned in a few other threads, I'm looking to go from a single SA-12 D2 Classic (750W) to dual SA-12 V.2 D4s (2x1000W). I've got the amp (SALT-2), waiting for the subs to be delivered, and now I just need to get a design and box built. My current SA-12 Classic's box was designed by Buck...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

EQ is flat on the headunit and bass boost is as low as I can get it on the amp (0dB). It could be very likely though that on other amps I was clipping the kicks so much that they would balance out with the basslines - obviously not ideal but I have a feeling that's what was happening. In that...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

Initially I was concerned that the amp wasn't outputting 2kW or anywhere near it, because when slightly clipping I was not getting a voltage drop and no mechanical noise and/or burning smells. But now after I have experimented with the subsonic and LPF more I started getting voltage drops when...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

Apologies for my ignorance, but what exactly is it I need to do? The formula is accurate (44.72VAC = √2000W x 1Ω) so when measuring the speaker terminal's voltage I'll be looking for ~45V, but do I need to do this when playing a tone just before the clipping point? I've had a little play around...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

Not yet, but I'd have thought if it was an issue with current then the voltage would drop during the clips, would it not? The 'Big 3' is definitely next on my list though as I've already got myself the Sky High 1/0 OFC Big 3 upgrade kit. By 'a meter', I assume you mean to measure the wattage? I...

Rockford R750-1D (750W) vs Sundown SALT-2 (2000W) barely any difference in volume? No voltage drop when clipping?

Both amps should have been seeing a 1 ohm load. I know that the SALT is currently seeing a 1 ohm load for sure as I checked the speaker terminals with a multimeter before tuning.
