Keep in mind, if an amp is 2 ohm stable minimum... when you bridge it, it will be 4 ohm stable minimum. That likely explains why the fosgate over heated. Also, those old amps are underrated so the fosgate is probably more powerful than it states... I'd first try running the Fosgate not bridged...

yeah... I think you're making it more difficult by worrying about the factory limits opposed to just creating an aftermarket circuit...

What the heck? A constant ground cannot drain your battery.. in fact it doesn't even really make sense. Your vehicle's chassis is always a constant ground. Sounds like you wired something wrong. If you had the amps remote wire input connected to a switch and the switch provided 12v to the amp...
