People who find the quart tweets to harsh, just dont know how to use an EQ properly. All you have to do is turn them back a lil. As for quart mids they have a great sound. The mids require plenty of power though. The more power the more dynamic they get.

Of the 6.5s you mentioned I would use either the Quarts or Bostons. They both have very good midbass output, which would be ideal for the rock and metal. Run your amp in two channel mode and the mids would get plenty of power with some left over.
