I'd go retro and haunt craigslist for a 1970's Kenwood, Pioneer, or Yamaha stack with the biggest ancient speakers you can find to go with it like a set of Advents or KLH's. When you tire of them you will be able to get your money back. In the meantime it will be total shag rug.
Tensioner & belt definitely. Look at the underside of the belt that touches the pulleys. It should be farily dull in appearance not shiny. If it is, it may be the culprit.
