There's no real performance difference between a 4ohm and 2ohm sub.. Decide on the speakers that you want (ignoring impedance) then look at the impedance to decide what amp would perform best.. Or, decide on an amp that you like, and pick the speakers that match the load the amp can handle...

here's how I've always tested things like this - get a portable CD-player (like a discman) and get a stereo headphone to RCA cable, then connect that portable directly to your amp. If that doesn't work, it's not your head unit. If that works, then it's your head unit, or the RCA's coming back...

I hear people talking about box-building applications - to aid in the construction of a speaker enclosure.. Can anyone recommend a good one? (name of app, and who makes it) I don't care if it's freeware, shareware, or retail... just looking for the most useful.

I'd go for the Fosgate, I've always had great luck with them.. Great sound quality, and good power.

well, I'd say you have two good options: 1. Replace those speakers with better speakers, but they'll never quite handle the bass of your subs.. the better they are, the closer you'll get. 2. Put a resistor (one brand name is "Bass Blocker") inline to each speaker, to eliminate the lowest...
