Thanks. I've sorted it out. It was due to aerial antenna interference.

I've just fitted an after market head unit. I'm getting engine noise/static and whining which increases as the engine revs increase. I'm not using RCA or an additional amplifier. The problem did not occur with the unit I have replaced. Is there an easy fix for this, I'm not technically minded ...
