I started my viper 5900 install today and gave up since it wouldn't come on. Is there some way to test and make sure its fine?

I am going to be going to a very large university soon and plan on upgrading my existing car alarm. All I want is a 2 way with the longest range possible and I will add back-up batteries and a proximity later. What do you all recommend for 2 ways with lots of range.

from what I've heard W7 has much more output, but it has an exagerated low that some people don't like. I'm sure this can be fixed with a little eq'ing and box tuning.
