what do i need to make a box?

I'm sure that the box that started this thread was built long ago - but I thought I would throw in my two cents on the rotozip question. I just finished a box made out of 3/4 inch MDF. I used a double thickness for the front face that the sub was mounted to (1-1/2 inch). I tried both a dremel...

    Amp rack necessary/desirable?

I'm installing an amp beneath my rear seats and the short self tapping screws that came with the amp won't reach through the thick insulation beneath the carpet. I'm wondering if I should just get longer screws, or should I mount to carpet covered piece of MDF and screw the MDF to the floor...

    Subwoofer on seat?

I screwed up and ordered a sub that is too deep to fit under my seat. I could send it back and find something shallower...but it's like $50 to ship to/from Alaska. So I want to make do. The only place I can find to fit a box now is on the rear seat (2001 Extended Cab GMC). Is there any problem...

    Sub box on seat?

That would take some MAJOR work on the bench. I'd be a little worried about safety on a home built too (my little kids ride with me a lot). Any ideas on how it will work on top of the seat?

    installing alpine 9815 in '00 altima....help

Absolutely. It was a good standby until I got an external amp. Even with these relatively hungry components. At reasonable volumes they sounded great. They did start to distort when it got loud...and the bass definitely needed a little more power. But most friends who listened to them were...

    installing alpine 9815 in '00 altima....help

That was an interim solution. I'm in process of installing an MRV-F540. Now I'll run the rears off the deck amp.

    installing alpine 9815 in '00 altima....help

Definitely run the 10 guage wire direct to the battery if you are going to use the internal amp. If not, just use the factory wiring harness. I had my 9813 (same internal amp) installed by my Alpine dealer. They hooked it up to the "direct battery" wire on the factory harness. It made my SPX...

    Tight fit...speaker clearance?

Thanks Trixter, I'm not even sure what a vented pole is, but I looked at the specs on my Type S and see that it does have a "extended and vented pole". So - how much room should I leave behind the magnet? Which also brings up another question. I plan to stuff the sealed box because I'm...

    Carpeting?

I bought mine at Crutchfields along with a bunch of other stuff. They may not be the cheapest though. I seem to recall the single unit was $25. It was enough to do a 1 cu ft. speaker box and single amp rack.

    Tight fit...speaker clearance?

I was considering 2 inches of clearance just wide enough for the speaker itself - and leaving it open in the front as kind of a channel for the sound. Why do you not recommend putting it under the seat? Unfortunately its a daily driver and I often have kids or packages in it. I can't give up...

    Tight fit...speaker clearance?

I'm trying to find .6 sq ft beneath the rear drivers side seat in a full size GMC extended cab. I have to point the 10" sub down because there is a max height of 8.5" beneath the seat. I need every millimeter I can find. How much clearance do I need to allow between the speaker and the...

    Distribution block for second amp

I currently have a 10ga wire running from my battery direct to a built-in amp in my hu (27wa RMS). I'm now going to add a second amp - Alpine MRV-F540 (4x80). Should I just connect an 8ga wire to the same terminal on the battery and run two wires through the firewall? Or should I run a 4 ga...

    Faulty install - or OK?

6 weeks ago I paid a local audio shop to install an Alpine 9813 hu (27 watt RMS) and a pair of Alpine SPX-177A's in my 2001 GMC truck. They originally hooked up the onboard amp to the factory wiring harness. It sounded horrible and after talking to the Alpine engineers, I convinced my...
