Yes but you're missing the point of my original post.. "low-profile enclosure".. I don't want something that's going to take up loads of space. I'm starting to wonder now if the best bet is just to remove the rear 5x7's and throw a generic box in the boot and remove it whenever I need the space

Yeah I did look over that site, it's well and truly book-marked! I guess I could bolt a plank of MDF under the rear deck and mount some subs on it, but would I be limited to 5" diameter ones? I know TB do some high-excursion 5" subs, but I think they'd get lost in a fairly large boot space...

Mount it where, on the rear deck? I'm not cutting the rear deck at all - it's a structural part of the car.

I would, but I really want the rear shelf to look OEM. I know that's not super practical in the world of the serious ICE enthusiast, but i'm trying to reach a compromise with my install. I am quickly becoming the victim of my own anal retention!

Hm well I had a look at this again today. It seems like I won't be using the TB speakers I bought They're nowhere near 6x9 when it comes to mounting and fitting and neither fit my 5x7-6x9 adapters and certainly won't mount into the original space on the deck.. Oh well, they'll be up for sale...

I'll be taking some photos and get some dimensions of the deck tomorrow... So anyone able to take a peep at the data and come up with a box volume, port type, etc? I am willing to pay for success. Ha ha.

Hi all, I've purchased a pair of Tang Band W69-1436 6x9 (sub)woofers which I intend to put in my (UK) Escort saloon (eg, metal rear deck, not hatch). I intend to build a slimline box to sit on the underside of the rear deck, with the two speakers sealed to the original 5x7 openings (not sure...

Ok well i've bit the bullet and purchased a pair of Tang Band w69-1436's which I will put in a slimline box bolted and sealed to the underside of the deck, with the subs working through the OE speaker holes on the deck. http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/1230_04/w69-1436.htm Fingers crossed
