I've got the camera looking out from where the stock trunk lock cylinder was in the upper part of the medallion on the trunk. It has a reflective cone shaped area around the lock that looks black in the camera. Perhaps the camera is seeing that much black on the screen and thinks it is dark...

Stretching an analog low res picture across a high res digital display always looks like crap. The picture is definitely much nicer in AHD mode, even if it is in black and white.
