Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

I used RCA cables from a company here in NJ, Rockville. 100% copper twisted pair. The cable looked to be of high quality. I used their 4 gauge OFC copper for power and ground, and their 14 gauge OFC speaker wire for my sub.

    Low-profile sub

That's a bit above my budget of $150. For $150 I got the Kicker 40TCWS104. It comes with a box and has decent boom, but gets real sloppy with the fast stuff like metal and rock. Basically only sounds nice for rap, hip hop and boomy trance.

    Low-profile sub

Which sub would you recommend Number of subs preferred: 1 Size preferred (if configuration allows): 8 or 10 Budget: $100 Power to be used (which amp(s), include which resistance): 250 watts @ 4 ohms Space available (take measurements, do not guess): 15 x 15 x 8 Goals: complement my...

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

I did two things. First I disconnected my amp completely and only ran the rears off the factory head unit. Fading completely to the rear, no problems. When fading to the middle, i get static/crackling when increasing the volume past 17ish. I suspected a short in the front output somewhere...

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

@ashren315 Thanks for the feedback. That makes alot of sense. I think you're on to something. I will check the pull the HU and check/rewire the wiring. I'll update soon

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

I'll be sure to include a head unit in phase II of the build. For now, I would just like to get the stock rears working with the stock HU. @ashren315, no touching wires, made sure. They are heat shrink wrapped behind the unit and isolated physically at the other end. Maybe I got a little...

    Low-profile sub

I have an Alpine PDR-F50, bridging 3&4 into 250 watts. Is the CPL108LG-W3V3 comparable to your sub in your blazer?

    Speaker level input - 8v vs 4v

Factory head unit is 8v, speaker-level input.

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

The amp has high level inputs, up to 4v (Alpine PDF-F50). But I have removed the amp and the front speakers from the circuit. Wierd thing is that I'm getting noise on the rear speakers connected directly to the stock factory HU.

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

@LosIsATool Do you mean that the ground to the factory HU may have been damaged by pulling on the harness?

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

I'm going for the stock look. With the newer cars it's really difficult to replace the HU, since it has bluetooth, display, steering wheel controls, etc built in.

Static from factory HU over volume 17 (out of 40)

I took the amp out of the equation. I disconnected it from the battery. The stock HU is connected to the rear speakers and I still hear static on music tracks over volume 17.

    Low-profile sub

I need a low-profile sub as to not take much trunk space. My amp puts out 250 RMS @ 4 ohms. As far as low-profile subs go, how is the Pioneer Shallow Series TS-SWX2502?

JL amps - XD vs RD

What's the deal with the RD series? They have the same exact specs as the XD, though much cheaper and more LEDs. Is one made in China and the other in USA? Or are both made in China?

    Speaker level input - 8v vs 4v

Alpine PDR-F50 with up to 4v input needs to be on minimal gain, or else I am getting hiss in the speakers. Would an amp with 8v input give me better signal-to-noise ratio?
