    Checking Impedance of the speakers(at the amp) can detect that, right? This could be what ultimately what killed the Alpine.

    Well I'm back in car stereo Hell, I installed a new amp, A Punch 400-4 10 days ago, and now this amp is shutting off if I turn it up past 18.........aaaaarrrrrrrgggggggg!!!!! But when I turn the radio back down it comes back on. I'm really tiring of this crap.

    The amps are grounded to the truck floor with a bolt and 12 ga cable. However while I was doing the before mentioned tests, they were grounded to the Battery. Remember, this system has been in use for over a year, and when it went south, I was sitting in the driveway, in acc mode( not really...

    UPDATE...I have removed the line ins and the speaker leads individually and to no avail. I have the same result, amp plays for approx. 3-5 sec. then goes into protect mode.

    Both amps are turned on through a trigger wire from the head unit. I replaced that w/no change. I'm getting a full 13v all the way from the Batt. through the main fuse(at batt.), through the fuse block, all the way to the amps. But still, can one bad speaker lead take out both amps? The only 2...

    Yes the lights on both amps stay on. The guy at the shop said both amps are going into "protection" mode.
