I disagree with your philosophy about sacrificing wattage for frequency response. 90-100hz is like woofer to subwoofer range. We are talking about tough but tiny mids handling, yes, as much wattage as they cleanly can. I get it, I am quality concerned here but already the sound quality of this...

Featured New build after 13 years. Now What?

Let me ask you this: I am currently running the Type R 5 1/4"s at 65W RMS MAYBE because I am only using one side of the 4 channel amp. I have more headroom in the speakers now that I have the Pioneer hooked directly to the amp. I think I am running into distortion because there is too much...

I bypassed the Sony. The way that a AI assistant described it was that I was mixing hardware from different generations of audio equipment. The crossovers on the Pioneer are more granular and give me a lot more headroom. Let’s see how much I can dial this in.

    Featured New Rio System

Well yes that is correct. And, it is true to the extent that I had a family member's Lexus RX350 take $1000 to upgrade the electronics to accept Carplay, etc. I got the Maestro/iDatalink in the Pioneer unit I have because I though I would need it for the Xterra I have. It was way overkill for...

    Featured New Rio System

Look, I'm just asking. Why not try to upgrade the Source or head unit for this? Is there a lack of options? i would never dream of using a factory source unit with high-level inputs. Maybe I'm just ignorant though.

They should hire you over the bot, Hal. I will play around with the set up some and report back. I agree I have power left on the table and it is being choked somewhere. My philosophy has always been to have discreet components for every function, for example, let the receiver just produce...

AND BESIDES! I like having lots of funny boxes with wires poking out to show my friends!!!!!

What do you mean? You are probably referring to technology I'm not familiar with. I'm pretty basic at this stuff. I will, of course, experiment with bypassing the XEC-700, but I am analog guy at heart and I don't really like DSP the same way that I do not use a lot of fancy EQ. One reason...

Crackling in left tweeter and random turn off

As easy as swapping the RCA inputs I reckon! I think it’s in the speaker or possibly the crossover as I kid you not I remember my old ones making the same noise!!!!!! 3hours of driving OK today. Maybe just break in.

It's a kicker CXA360.4 I think So, I did try bridged output from that amp but I, again, was running into distortion up front. I brought it down to two channels to see if that would help the comps. Your keen observation about the wiring is due to the fact that my tech students wired up my...

Crackling in left tweeter and random turn off

Hal, I have some static or crackling in one of my tweeters. It is unlikely that the speaker is blown because I am only running 1/3 of it's rated power RMS at max volume. Can anyone recommend any steps to take to track this down? Also, I have a random shut off of the head unit at times. I am...

Featured New build after 13 years. Now What?

You know the waveforms are clean all the way through to the amps with gains settling at about one half on both amps. I turned down the bass boost on the SONY and got a much less extreme waveform there. Now I am flat EQ and just listening. The more I stop trying to get this system to blow my...

Featured New build after 13 years. Now What?

So, I’m using two channels on the Sony, sub and mid which is combined mids and highs. Passive Type-R crossover up front separates the mids and highs. I’m gonna come down on the Sony level and boost my amps a bit. I can’t tell where the distortion is entering or whether it really is just maxing...

Featured New build after 13 years. Now What?

Yeah I like his responses. I wonder why he’s ignoring me!!! The install is totally gross. Maybe you guys will get me to clean it up. I am going to rescope the entire system including the mids and highs. Something is just crushing my sound. It is possible that the dynamics of the Xterra make...
