Also make sure the ground is connected to clean metal. Scrape away paint in the spot you plan on using, make sure it won't rust either (ie. Don't use a piece of the body).

I'm gonna ask this. What's the difference between +3 and -3 dB on the crossovers? I haven't fiddled with mine yet. Is it like a boost/unboost for the tweeters?

The spacer itself is enough to clear the speaker basket from the 4x6 hole, no cutting required. And the tweeter is flush on the back side, because it has a 1/2" mounting depth anyway. I would think that there would be a difference. The question is, is it because of the cold air itself, or because the woofer itself is cold, rather then hot? Or maybe both factors.

Is the fuse in the amp, or inline with the power wire. If it's the power wire, maybe get a bigger fuse. 60 amp?
