    Questions about prefab box

I hate when companies take the carpet all the way around the sub - I guess they do that because they don't know how much is going to sit outside the box? Personally, I always had good luck with a thin piece of foam weatherstripping (like you'd use in a home). The thinner stuff bends easily...

    Questions about prefab box

Well, you should look at it like this - if you made the box what would you use? What ga wire do you plan on running from the amp to the speaker box? For 750 RMS, I'd go nothing smaller than 12ga both inside the box and out. When I built my boxes (granted this was ~10 years ago), I always used...

putting in a brand new deck

That's what I would do!! Get a wiring harness that matches your deck and 4Runner, that way it would be easy to put back to stock if need be. When splicing the HU wiring harness with the Toyota one, you can use longer wires. Just use connections that will stay together, and you can put the...

Sold FS: ORION 2400 watt amp

If this is off-topic, I apologize. As sad as that is, it runs pretty rampant. One of my friends found his stolen Soundstream on Ebay - he knew it was his because he carved his initials into the side of it and the seller didn't cover it up. If you want anyone to take you seriously in this FS...

    Alternator whine just got worse...

I will do that Stupid me, I just noticed that my RCAs going from the HU to the trunk aren't shielded - I just used one I had laying around for my home stereo. I bought good, shielded ones from the EQ to the amp, but not from the HU to the trunk. I'm fighing the good fight against stupdity and...

    Alternator whine just got worse...

I took the head unit and RCAs out of the picture, only using the head unit as a remote for powering on, and using my MP3 player for music/radio. It sounds fine - no whine whatsoever!!! I think I'll just get a new head unit later this summer and put new, better RCAs in when the head unit goes in...

    Alternator whine just got worse...

I'm going to take the RCAs out of the equation and see what that does. My Clarion EQ has an aux input, which I'm using with an MP3 player. Right now, I just use the deck for its remote to turn the amp and EQ on/off (I listen to the radio occasionally, but not near as much as I do my MP3 player...

    Alternator whine just got worse...

That does make sense - the unibody's metal wouldn't be like a body-on-frame, huh? I will try that. That head unit was a pain to get in. If I have to take that dash apart, I think I'll just get a new head unit - no sense putting another broken one in!!! Thank you both for the information. I...

    Alternator whine just got worse...

Hello all, I just finished reading the sticky on "Engine whine and ground loop fixes", but it has not solved my problem. I've always had a little bit of whine, but it was almost unnoticable, so I didn't worry too much about it. Three days ago, it's gotten very, very loud. When I turn the...

    Hello from Springfield, IL!!

Hello all I'm definitely not a newbie to car audio, but I am to this forum. I'm hoping I get some time to help out other people on here, as well as learn some things myself. This forum is a similar setup to another one I post on, so it should be easy to navigate. Anyway, I just wanted to...
