Subwoofer direction.. how important is it, and why.

I’ll second (third?) the above advice. Fire it all backwards. I also have an 8” hole in the rear deck where a factory sub would have gone (different make/model car though). No need to aim anything directly through the hole (aside from the 4th order box mentioned above) - that hole will...

    Old car audio needs updating

Just wanted to comment that the 76 Cutless oozes cool. Man that takes me back as there were more than one of those in my High School parking lot. That RF “Box that Rocks” is along those same lines. I’m also a RF fan as are your relatives and have some of their new amps but much of that is...

Who here prefers single sub setups, does power compression really affect them that badly?

I’ve got 2 subs but in hindsight I honestly would have been happy with half the power and only one 10 or 12” sub. My bass now can easily overpower the mid/highs volume that I’m comfortable listening to for any length of time so I keep the sub amp throttled back considerably. That being said...

High pitched white noise from tweeters

The only good thing about my tinnitus is that I would never notice such an issue.

Project Audiphile - 2002 Audi A4 - No Holds Barred

I love seeing the craftsmanship and design aspects of the high end “no-budget” installs. Amazing work.

Well, done right the bass comes through just fine. I’ve seen people “seal” them up with solid 3/4 MDF beauty panels covered in leather, etc and that definitely doesn’t work so well. But yes, forward firing was definitely a consideration - I’ve done them like that in the (distant) past as well...

Not really - only looks like it. See above.

Thanks! I can’t speak for anyone else’s, but I made some efforts to allow as much bass energy as possible to make it forward. That 1/4” thin “beauty panel” on the back of the sub box that makes it look “sealed up” was perforated with about 200 1/2” holes before covering it with thin grey...

Thanks - I’m pretty much done with what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna let the shop install the head unit/component speakers/ sound deaden the doors/wire up the DSR1 and set all of the gains/crossover points/eq settings/and time alignment stuff. I’ve had fun with the construction/cosmetic stuff - but...

DSR 1 mounts to the side of the trunk and is hidden behind a panel. Distribution/fuse block will sit on the other side in a similar manner and will be covered by a similar panel (I still need to do that)
