what is 'power compression'?

ok guys, you really got me confused..lol..help me out here..

ya, its a mtx 6000 4 ohm, its 250 watts rms, it doesnt distort at listening levels. I was thinking if i jumped up the power to 250 watts or so it would pound harder, but if not, i dont wanna bother

ok thanks, some said it wouldnt be noticeable because the same size speaker..

so if i went from my current 70 watts to 200 watts, same sub and box, it would not hit harder?

Its an old school kenwood amp, seems like it puts out more than its rated at like many old school amps, heck, it shakes my whole car, just want a little more..

ok, yes, the amp is rated at 70 watts and the sub is rated at 150 watts rms, even though im only putting 70 watts to it, it does pound quite nicely in my trunk. But now i want a little more, i cant buy a new amp and subs, but maybe either or, so, to get a little more 'feel' and sound, should i...

i also ran 45 watts to a 10 before and did well, just have the correct enclosure made and it doesnt take a lot of power

Im only running 70 watts rms right now.. so anyway, if it plateaus, why do so many people run so much power nowadays?

was thinking of getting a more powerful amp. What would change being im leaving the sub and enclosure the same? would it be louder? would the bass shake the vehicle more?
