do you only tap into one rear speaker right?

Im going to hook up my loc off the rear speakers in my 08 malibu and i was wondering if i have to splice into both of them or just one side? Since they have hi input and low inputs ill be taking the low input wires off to tap into correct?

pioneer deh-p3600, there's a gain knob on the amp ( that's what is set at like half)

I have a kicker dx300.1 amp powering 2 kicker comp 10's and I have the gain set at like half way ( this is my first setup) Ive been running it this way for a while and I notice that when I crank up the head unit to like 40+ (out of 60) the bass change tone? If that makes sense, I'm just not sure...
