[BUILD LOG] SQ Door Deadening – Multi‑Layer Treatment (Aero Gold + C3S + Accent + C6S) – Work in Progress

Great setup. I did almost the exact same setup for my previous car. I used STP gold as the deadener, stp accent for the ccf, and then did full coverage with stp noiseblock which was there mass loaded vinyl product. Was by far the quietest car I've ever been in. I actually started a few days...

    What Subs should I get?

How many months/years did you use the subwoofer before it failed ? Not saying this is 100% the issue but it is common for more entry level subwoofers to not have enough output for the drivers liking so they ended up trying to increase the loudness by either 1. Setting the Gain too high on the...

    Electrical Upgrade

That's a good point. Most people would brush that off as a fairly minor upgrade (100 to 150) but reality is if it takes 75-80 amps to run your car then you're now going from having just 20-25 available amps for your stereo to now 75-80 amps. The amount of available power you can now create for...

    Electrical Upgrade

Alternator like I pointed out is incredible easy on the 2nd gen silverados since it's top mounted. You can pay someone to swap out the alt and do the big 3 and it would take them less than 30 minutes total to do both. Running/wiring multiple batteries especially if you want one in the rear +...

    Electrical Upgrade

Agreed. This is a no brainer. High output alternators are not only easy to install on that generation Silverado but their easy to find. I personally wouldn't blow $400+ on all these batteries that act as buffer when like you said can just create the constant power you need for about the same...

Do I need a line out converter?

Yes the kicker keyloc. They purposely made it because a lot of these older LOCs like the JL Fix 86 won't work for newer cars that have things like heavy bass roll off, all pass filters, and volume dependent EQ. Keyloc is easily the best bang for buck if you don't want to invest in a Arc/Helix...

Old school guy with new sub questions

That's 100% what I'd run. High efficiency (90db), doesn't require a large box, easy to get a flat response curve EQ wise. You can usually get them depending on the sale for like $210-230 each. Really hard to beat them at that price.

    need help with install

My old 2005 Honda civic only had a 70A alternator + Hondas are known for their aggressive voltage regulator called the ELD (car purposely chargers lower volts to improve gas mileage) and I could barely run any power on it. I was lucky to have 300 watts available for car audio which is nothing...

Do I need an electrical upgrade??

Agreed. This thread is a few months old but wanted to point out that I've always thought it was oxymoron that these amplifiers push the narrative of high wattage at budget prices but that's not how it works. These SPL subs are very low efficiency and requires $1000+ in electrical upgrades to...

Best alternator for a 2020 Acura mdx

Singer alternators. Honda/Acuras have really aggressive voltage regulators and he was at least when I inquired the only major aftermarket guy that had a bypass for it. Mechman/DC Alternators had good products/reputation but bypassing the ELD is important with that high of wattage.

best 12" woofer for SQ? IYO

Audio frog GB12, Illusion C12XL, Raven 12XL, Acoustic Elegance SPB12 are all really nice SQ subs but $600+. Just below them you'll see SQL subs like the Adire Audio Brahma which I personally love. Bang for your buck Dayton Audio has some nice budget options that sound good in both home theater...

I don't know if I need a high output alternator or not

Yeah good point, I didn't realize his sub was so cheap. That sub would actually probably blow on rated power (at that price bracket they just assume people buying those bundles won't ever run true power to the amplifer)

I don't know if I need a high output alternator or not

True. Alot of it just depends on how aggressive you are with the volume and how loud is loud enough for the drivers liking I remember back in 2016 me and my local shop owner tested a 750 watt Soundqubed monoblock on 4 different sedans all with the same sub setup and the 1 car that had an...

    Suggestions for factory upgrade

Speakers you bought are 6.5 inches where the stock OEM speakers/mount is 6.75 (6-3/4"). You can either return them or contact crutchfield customer support and they can tell you what adapter you need to buy (basically a small plastic bracket that will allow you to install the speakers to the...

I don't know if I need a high output alternator or not

I would go through Singer Alternators because he was the only one of the major companies that offers an option to bypass the ELD Singer Alternators I would do either his 200A or 220A option with ELD bypass. That would give you some headroom if you later down the road wanted to upgrade your...
