Definitely nothing's loose... everything is secure! If the memphis goes into protect when clipping (if it is indeed clipping), is there something wrong with it? From what Bush is saying, it sounds like it...

I'll be taking it to the shop to check the amp and speakers... it's tough since I bought everything used... Edit: Oh, and the amp is warm to the touch but not HOT... If it was overheating, wouldn't it stay off for more than a couple of seconds?

Why bush, you think there's something wrong with it? My deck does have 4V outputs, so the gain should probably be close to all the way down, right?

Horseman - I definitely didn't know that... I just turned the gains down and it doesn't do it anymore... of course, it's not as loud... but still sounds amazingly good and loud... I'm loving this setup! Thanks to all who helped.

1) Clipping the amp? Not sure, but when the amp clips it usually doesn't go into protect, right? Usually you just get some crappy distortion. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. 2) Line driver or anything boosting the signal? Nope, RCA's straight from the deck to the amp... could it be the deck...

I ended up getting a memphis belle amp for my system. While I await its arrival, I have a US Acoustics USX4065 to run the comps . Thanks to all for your suggestions - the Arc amps were a bit pricey for me at this point, but I'll continue to keep my eyes peeled if the Memphis underwhelms me.

I've been reading a bit about sundown... are those SQ amps? How much would a 4 channel set me bacK? How would a Sundown amp compare to... say, a diamond D6 600.4, a ZED-built 4 channel (like the US Acoustics), or a memphis audio 4 channel?

Which would you do, the FD4100 or the 300.4? Will there be a noticeable difference in quality between the two?
