UPDATE: Upgraded to a Rockville DB25 amp and metered it today for fun. Got a 125.8 at the headrest!!! not amazing but I'm still super happy with it for how little work went into it

    Competition Newbie build help

I honestly just want a semi-competitive MECA SPL M1 class system (no world beating, I'd be perfectly happy with finishing middle of the field) that still leaves me with usable storage for longer trips to events and shows (which is why I'm not super willing to do a trunk class system), and still...

I straight up, don't have the room to fit a competition system in the trunk

    Competition Newbie build help

Alright, well I've taken alot of everyone's suggestions into account and I'm now planning on an hcca 3k (I'm fully aware that it is more than overkill) as it would allow me a ton of room to grow, and I'd be able to run it at 2ohms to be more efficient and not have to worry as much about power...

    Competition Newbie build help

Ohh, ok I've heard of "box"/ impedance rise before, but never really had it explained or known how drastically it effected power. How big of an amp should I need then. A 2k, 3k, or more? Or would it be a better idea to build the box see how far under tested power my amp does and buy an amp...

    Competition Newbie build help

I'll definitely have to get a meter but as I said in the start of the thread I plan to compete in Meca sol's modified m1 division (I would've preferred to compete in the street modified division but I don't think that I'll be able to meet their "enclosure must be 1ft from the headliner rule for...

    Competition Newbie build help

It's a Geo Storm "mini Camaro" and in terms of space I have very little, the box is gonna take up where the back seat is and into a bit of the trunk, and I plan for it to not go above the window line

    Placement not placenta

    Competition Newbie build help

Just took a look at my car, and it seems the best placenta for the port would be aimed straight up at the massive rear hatch window, would it be a bad idea to do that

    Competition Newbie build help

I'm planning an overhaul of my 93 storms system to compete in the Meca spl modified m1 class. The build is planned to consist of an American Bass xd1522 (running off my current pioneer gmd9701 amp at 1200w@1ohm) I plan to build a (round about) 4cu ft ported box that will go where my back seat...

    SUB DISTORTS

It's known as "engine noise" always check your grounds first, as it's the easiest fix, but it can be anything from a cheap amp to badly grounded rca outs on your headunit

    Upgrading Factory Audio System

In terms of finding speakers I would measure out your mounting depth because most brands will have it listed, but with the ohm rating, you should be able to run 4 ohms just fine off the factory headunit they just won't be quite as loud tho(general rule is that you shouldn't go below the...
