Okay so I was a dumbass and i said there was no alternator whine when my car wasn't on... actually there is still alternator whine but it's a lot quieter... I'm still thinking it's the RCA cable.. hopefully it's not the amp

Muddy sound from right speaker after grounding RCAs?

So today I finally decided to ground my RCAs as the hissing noise got louder since I installed my system 2 months ago. Before grounding the RCAs I noticed some crackling sounds out of the right side front speaker as well as the hissing noise. Well today after I grounded the RCAs on the head...

Jbl gto vs. us amps md42 vs. old school ppi pcx480 vs. other good 4 channel amps...

I'm also wondering how do those compare to Alpine PDX 4.150 or to DLS Ultimate A4. I currently run PDX 4.150 and have an option of getting A4 for fairly cheap price.. not sure if it would be big of an upgrade or if I should save the money to upgrade my deck from Alpine 9887 to DRZ9255... hmmm...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

Thanks gunz4me... I know of all of those things, I read a tutorial jmac or someone else posted here and it's in the sticky here. However, I do need to try out 50 or 60 Hz tone to see if that works and if it does... then I know that you are right that DMM can't read outside of the normal...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

I know that DMM does not read watts but voltage which is calculated by using watts and ohms so essentially you can say that DMM reads certain wattage depending on the corresponding voltage you get after plugging in said wattage in the formula. Thank you for explaining the other part to me, I...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

My head unit is Alpine 9887 and the max volume on it is 35. I don't think my speakers get loud until I turn the volume to 23-25 and 27 is real loud, but at 27 my sub goes crazy and there is still no distortion from the speakers. I think I should turn the comps amp's gains up a little bit and...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

Beg my pardon... I "inserted it gently" into the speaker plug. Better?

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

My comps amp puts out 300x2 in bridged and I know several people that gave 300 per side to Focal 165 K2Ps in passive even though they are rated 100RMSx2. Also, my sub is rated 500RMS (DLS Iridium 10") and my 1.600 is 600RMS so I know that even if I turn the gains ALL the way up that neither my...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

That's what Bing from Simplicity Sound told me too... but I don't think my ears are quite "trained" yet so I listen to them... lol... If I listen by ear... when should I stop turning the gain up? I read in a tutorial that you keep lowering the frequency on the head unit until the speakers start...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

Ohhh thanks! Are you sure this is the only issue? My amp rack in 350z is REAL PITA to put in/take out as it's in the stock bose dept behind the driver's seat so I want to make sure I know what the problem is before I unbolt the rack. I would like to hear from someone that has Alpine PDX amps...

Alpine PDX amps... setting gains with DMM?

Hey guys... I tried setting the gains of my Alpine PDX 4.150 and 1.600 this weekend and when I plugged the DMM into the speaker plug... it wasn't reading anything... why is that? I unplugged all speaker plugs, shoved DMM into one of the speaker plugs and plugged it into the amp. DMM was set to...

Alpine 9887 settings with passive xovers & sub

Thanks for the tip on the sub slope! I'm running passive and I thought in passive comps' crossover takes care of the highs, no?

Alpine 9887 settings with passive xovers & sub

Okay so I changed it to F/R/Sub and I set: LOW: 80hz FLAT MID: 80HZ 12dB and it sounds much nicer! Do I have to change any other settings while running passive?
