So are the radio and AC controls 2 different parts or are they together?

I was wondering how you remove the factory stereo in a 2wd 1988 chevy cheyenne. I can get the dash off and get to the stereo bolts but I'm not sure how you remove it fully. Does it connect to your ac controls or are they separate? Because it appears as if they are one piece and if not will a...
