What is the output level set at in your head unit for the sub channel. Range is -24 to +6.

There's a setting on that head unit for rear speaker to be set as Full Range or Subwoofer. You may not be wired this way at all, but maybe see if it's set to Full and maybe should be set for sub.

FIrst aftermarket I installed, I had to enable the sub output in the head unit. I don't remember if it was Pioneer or Kenwood, but it was one of them.

You're welcome. My main fogginess is when I learned that usb-c can now also output analog. I just wanted to be sure that it was not my phone dac doing the analog conversion. My guess is that when it's plugged into the usb-a going into the head unit that the phone somehow knows (some handshake)...

These days usb-c CAN output analog, but that is not the norm. Your usb-c to 3.5mm might have a builtin dac chip. Seems these days many do. Is your adapter or phone doing the dac conversion?
