ok maybe the backfiring is by giving it to much gas... but it feels like it wants to die while im driving... i didnt have this problem before... could it be my alt

So I added an 800 watt amp and two 12 subs. Eveything is connected right. Ground is good too. But when I drive my 5 speed 98 jeep Cherokee it feels like it wants to shut off so I have to give it gas then it backfires every now and then and then it is good for a while. So what is the problem...
