using an ipod with a Kenwood KDC-X590

You can use the USB cable instead. I have the Kenwood X890. Superb deck, and plug and play iPod control via USB. You can control virtually everything from the deck.

    Head unit and quality questions

Well guys, I bought a 2GB flash drive (Sandisk Cruzer Micro). I got rid of the U3 support it ships with, reformatted it in Windows Explorer, and used Phatnoise to load it up. Works great! I even have voice prompts to aid in searching. Three lines of display. Rock and roll. But I didn't get into...

    Head unit and quality questions

I just have a couple moments here 'cause I'm working, but no, I haven't tried anything else but the wife's iPod and this little 1 GB MP3 player I just bought. I haven't tried any complex searches yet - been too busy working thus far. I'll keep you posted if you're interested.

    Head unit and quality questions

I'll add one more thing - I chose the x890 because it has three lines of display versus the one line of display on the x590. gordo

    Head unit and quality questions

I'm the proud owner of a Kenwood x890, with the USB cable. The end of the cable sits in my glove compartment. I plugged in my wife's iPod the other day. It was excellent. That deck has three lines of customizable display, and I could see the artists name, album name, song title, track time...

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

I called Kenwood Canada today (I live in Canada), and just happened to speak with the guy who went out to the big retail chains to familiarize them with the Excelon series and its USB capabilities. I asked him straight up if I could transfer audio tracks to a thumb drive just as I would any...

Great news, prochobo. What format are your audio files? MP3? WMA? Did you use PhatNoise? gordo

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

One of the most annoying things is that the respective websites do little to demystify the confusion. You can check the sites for USB details, check the online manuals, etc., but the explanations are either cryptic or not forthcoming. gordo

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

Hey Juan: I don't own the X890 yet. Still trying to determine if it (or the Alpine 9857, or the JVC KD-SH1000, etc) have are sophisticated enough in their USB capabilities to make me happy after I've spent my money. I'll have to try another store, but most of the shops I've spoken with via...

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

Hey Juan: Thanks for getting involved here, BTW. Both San Diego Dude and myself are talking about thumb drives/flash drives/hard drives connected via the included USB cable, not iPods connected via an iPod cable or an AUX port. I don't even own an iPod and I don't think I ever will, but I'm...

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

San Diego Dude: I went to a local retailer yesterday to check out the USB functions of the x890. My salesperson stuck no less than three thumb-type drives in the USB port. Each time, the same result: No audio files found. He conjectured that none of the devices had audio files loaded on them...

Ugh, back into the same dilemma as b4...

fatryan: The USB connection on the Kenwood deck is by way of a cable that's attached to the rear of the unit. And yes, it does allow you to plug in a thumb drive. I've actually asked a question regarding this unit elsewhere in the forum, asking if anyone has had real first-person experience...

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

Thanks Forester. So, when you mention the slow as molasses speed, you're referring to the iPod connection (the AUX jack)? You're not talking about the USB port, correct? gordo

    Kenwood KDC-X890: USB/iPod capabilities question...

Hey guys: I'm totally new here, but I asked a question a couple weeks back and I got some great help. Thanks. This time, I want to ask about the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X890. I have no question about the sound or build quality. What I'd like to know are the opinions of anyone who's used this...
