I think your thinking about the little dinky inverters used in 12 volt systems. In fact, without going into a lot of detail, with the how's and why's, I actually have a little inverter in my truck, and part of my system (my DSP) is running off of 110 volts... But your right, it's very low...

True..... But then adding aftermarket electronics would be very unlikely to cause a mechanical issue, even if you screwed something up with the install. On the other hand, you could totally screw up something with your electrical or onboard computer, buy installing any kind of electronics...

Im mostly just going by what I have heard from multiple sources... But also, of course an alternator is going to have to work harder to make 14.5 volts, than it does to make 13.5. So obviously this will shorten the lifespan of the alt by a little, and if its only a little, I wouldn't worry about...
