I feel like it may be the alternator. The physical unit has the exact same whine. It's pretty new, but I'm also not sure if this is normal or not for a HO alt. I'm going to call mechman today if I can remember, and see what they have to say.

I tired a new HU unit of the same mode because I like this stereo and no luck.

I mean it is alternator whine, so I would assume it would go away, as it doesn't do it with the engine off. My alt itself does put out the same sound from the physical unit. I was going to contact mechman and see what they had to say

yeah I did those as well as upgraded alt power wire to battery.

would it make any difference to add a 0 gauge ground from a bolt on the alt to the chassis? I'm posting this in 2 forums, and someone in another forum told me to make sure there's a solid alternator ground, so that the alternator doesn't cannibalize the other grounds, or something along those lines.

I really don't think it could be that, but I'll check it out. I have 0 gauge grounds to the factory ground locations, that are all still very clean. My engine block is grounded to the firewall my battery is grounded to the strut tower pretty much, I don't have an alternator ground yet, so I will...

I have tried grounding the rca jackets and there was 0 difference. I ran brand new stinger pro series 14 gauge wire for all.of the speakers.

Currently, I have the mids amp and the headunit temporarily grounded directly to the negative terminal on the battery. I also have an in-line noise filter on the stereo power wire. I also have a ground loop isolater on the rcas for my sub amp (that worked better than putting ground loop...

fortunately, this stereo has a very shallow chassis. Most of my testing has been done with stereo sitting outside of the mounting area, with little to no stress on the wires.

I wasn't too clear in the post, but I did recieve the new headunit and grounded it to the frame behind the stereo and it was the exact same.

for my amp ground I have it to the paneling in my trunk, secured with a bolt and a nut. I sanded as much as I could, and I used a grind wheel on the nuts and bolts. I also tried to with my sub amps ground and it was no better. I tested every ground available above the spare tire and they all...
