Your right. On paper it shouldn't. But sometime in real world applications things can get a little out of the ordinary. Could have been a surge or a short somewhere along the line that made it to the amp.

Just my opinion... That amp is pulling more current than that 8gauge wire and fuse can supply hence the smell and blowing of fuses. Try running 4awg power wire and a 80amp fuse also upgrade your ground to 4 awg and you should be fine...
