big 3 was included in the battery and alt. and there isn't a huge reason to do big 3 without upgrading the alternator. they should be done at the same time, imo.

i'm no spl competitor but i highly doubt 150dB will be easy to acheive while keeping under $1000. i mean the electrical system and wiring could probably take over $500 alone (alt-$200-$300, battery(s)-$100-$300, lots of 1/0 @ over $2 a foot... you get the point) put sound deadener, box...

don't waste your money on a capactior... its likely to make things worse. put the money towards a useful upgrade, like the big 3, alternator, or b attery.

thats going to be tough on that budget, to get pretty loud.

i've always used liquid nails when building my box... i use it to glue the wood together (with screws of course) and then i've also used it on the inside to seal it..
